1. Most importantly, the playlists
these days, every DJ is using a laptop but they feel like a double edged sword, providing opportunity and creating new obstacles to creativity at the same time. Have you ever been stuck at a critical moment thinking, what was the name of that song?! – It would be perfect!” Only to watch the countdown wind down to zero and then have no choice but to drop a dancefloor killer. In this article I will attempt to provide a few suggestions for music tagging that will help organize your giant collection into something more navigable.
Mac and Windows users can mange their big Music archives via UltraMixer or iTunes. Playlists are set up quickly and smart playlists quickly conjure up a list of the most played and favorite tracks so on the screen. Creating Playlists and intelligent groups will help you getting a full overview about your Mp3 titles. You had also the opportunity to seek the cover automatically through the Internet (especially good for older tracks) .Everybody has to decide if he/she wants to order the titles by style in various playlists, according to BPM, artist or other criteria.
2. Pack the digital music suitcase
Just as important as general Playlists are on the respective Venue tailored directories.Digital DJs should scan through their files and create own playlists for the evening. So this eliminates the hectic to-ings and fro-ings between the General Playlists and the file archiv, the set gets a certain flow and there is more space for creative mixing. You should have prepared several playlists for the evening , the moment will come and you will need them, even if tons of music wishes, a moderation job or wedding games interrupt your DJ mix. Every party night comes the point where you need to get in the mix. The customer finally booked no Jukebox.
3. Clean up your libary
Too many DJ´s confuse their private track collection with their DJ Track collection. Complete albums, EPs whole or entire collections can be found here two or three times. Various tools for MAC like the Gemini duplicate scanner or the “quick search” functions in Windows can identify Such duplicate titles or folders and you will be able to remove them later. Why you dump your archives with tracks you wouldn’t play again? If you clean up this mess you will make the collection much clearer, easier to manage and the duplicates didn´t impede you when you search for tracks. For the future it is worth to do such a “clearing action”.You do not play any of the titles from the top 100 list forever. Doubts? Simply create a temporary archive playlist to make a backup.
Intelligent groups are new in UltraMixer 4. An intelligent group (sometimes called “smart group”) is a terrific way to manage information in your music libary.
These groups allow you to define your own selection criteria. After defining your file archive it will be filtered by the selection criteria
and the target music files will be shown in the intelligent group. If there are changes in the file archive the intelligent groups will be refreshed automatically.
The big advantage of an intelligent group over a regular group is that when you add new tracks, that song automatically becomes a member of your UltraMixer intelligent group with no further interaction on your part.
According to which criteria the selection of the title is done, the user can define and combine freely. For example if you plan a 90’s party, you can create a group with the characteristic, year “from to” 1990 – 2000.
UltraMixer now searches your complete file archive for these attributes and sorts the songs automatically. You can now create groups for everything. Discofox evenings or greek night for example. Simply select the appropriate attribute and there you go.
Intelliget groups look different to the user groups they have a group icon. They can easily been edited by double-clicking on the group.
